About Us
Welcome to Island Grove ....
Island Grove is located in sunny Florida. We are a medium sized kennel of German imports and American Shepherds. Here, we focus on quality not quantity.
I first fell in love with the breed over thirty years ago. Ever since then, I've owned many German Shepherds. Each dog, although displaying a different personality, has maintained several characteristics that they all hold in common such as love, devotion and steadfast loyalty. All of which makes the German Shepherd a breed to be admired and respected.
The German Shepherd breed has been in existence since 1890. My beliefs have been that the Germans have succeeded in breeding the "superior" dog through selective breeding to obtain the Shepherd that they produce today. Through the use of their "Breed Masters" they are able to control their kennels and breeding programs.
I have traveled many times to Europe to choose the dogs that I think will enhance my breeding program. My philosophy is this, " purchase the best bitches that we can afford, breed them in Europe with the best producing males that portrait the best temperament, bone and substance, color, prey drive and of course, health." By following this, you are almost guaranteed to produce puppies that are sound in body and mind.
Our foundation stock is imported because I, being the owner, like the older style shepherd. My bitches have been purchased from Kirschental Kennel, in Germany which is owned by Karl Fuller. My goal is to produce German Shepherds that are healthy, structurally correct with sound temperaments, high intelligence and trainability. Our breeding stock is OFA Certified or retains the "a" stamp from the German hip certification program.
We recently have also incorporated several American German Shepherds into our kennel as well. We have some of the top bloodlines in our Champions that we are very proud of. Keep your eye in the show ring for our dogs...
